High-energy Nd:Cr:GSGG lasers based on phase and polarization conjugated multiple-pass amplifiers

摘要
Lasers based on Nd:Cr:GSGG low-energy oscillator/high-energy multiple-pass amplifiers produced 1.7 J pulses in a M-2 approximate to 2 divergence beam at 2.4% electrical efficiency. Thermal tensing and birefringence correction were major factors driving the amplifier design. Essential components in achieving a moderate average power output were an intra-amplifier telescope to correct for lowest order thermal focusing, a phase conjugate mirror to correct for higher order thermal lensing aberrations, and a linear optics derived polarization conjugator to correct for birefringence.
