New fluoride glasses in the system ZnF2-AlF3-PbF2-LiF

摘要
The glass formation in the system AlF3-ZnF2-PbF2-LiF is presented, in which the primary glass former is AlF3-ZnF2 and the primary modifier PbF2 is progressively replaced by LiF. Several glass compositions in the system 30ZnF2-25AlF3-(45-x)PbF2-xLiF were prepared using high purity chemicals ZnF2, AlF3, PbF2 and LiF. The mixtures of different compositions in 10 g batch were melted in a platinum crucible at approximately 800 °C for 15 min in presence of excess ammonium bifluoride to avoid oxidation. The amorphous nature of the samples was confirmed by X-ray diffraction taken in a diffractometer and scanning electron micrograms.
