The thermal cracking effects of CeCl3 dopant on the blue electroluminescent (EL) properties in SrGa2S4:Ce thin films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system were investigated. The cracking enhanced the Ce3+ ion density in SrCa2S4:Ce film without degrading the crystallinity. The maximum EL luminance was thereby increased to 85 cd/m(2) at a driving frequency of 1 kHz. The chromaticity of the EL was also maintained in the pure blue region.
