Preparation and magnetic properties of LiCr1-xAlxTiO4 (0<=x<=0.4)

Solid solutions LiCr1-xAlxTiO4 (0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.4) were obtained by solid state reactions in air at 1173 K. Neutron diffraction data have been used to refine the crystal structure of the spinel LiCrTiO4, which is common to all members of the series and shows a cubic symmetry (space group Fd3m). Magnetic properties are discussed and the results suggest antiferromagnetic interactions in the octahedral sublattice that provoke an inherent frustration. (C) 1996 Academic Press,Inc.
