A New Map for Knowledge Dissemination Channels

The knowledge searchers, particularly Information System (IS) practitioners, seek insights and solutions for the practical problems as they become and remain knowledgeable about subjects matter that strikes varied IS interests. A new approach to rating journals is to directly examine publishing behaviors of IS researchers whose records have been judged by leading research universities as being sufficient to warrant tenure. Several decisions must be made to operationalize the new approach. First of them is to examine what set of leading research universities should be used. Second is the time period to be used for observing their IS faculty members' journal publishing activities. The third point is to consider the cut-off point to keep the numbers of rated journals manageable. The fourth point is the measures to be adopted as the basis for determining the relative rating of all journals that meet or exceed the cutoff point.
