摘要：

The current oven-heating test for the propensity of such materials as coals and carbons to spontaneous heating has been shown to be fundamentally flawed. In this paper, a new test is proposed which uses the same experimental set-up as the existing one but is much more soundly based, and leads to more reliable predictions.
