Emergence of magnetism in titanium nanowires

摘要
The magnetic properties of infinitely long monostrand Ti nanowire were investigated by using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method. The results show that the Ti monowires exhibit a ferromagnetic ground state. The magnetic moment is 0.61 mu(B) peratom at the equilibrium bond length and increases with stretching. The origin of the wire magnetism was analyzed. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
