LIF of C-2 (A(1)Pi(u)) via the Freymark band (E(1)Sigma(g)(+)<-A(1)Pi(u))

C-2 (A(1) Pi(u)) produced from multi-photon dissociation of C2H2 at 193 nm was probed via the Delta v = -2 sequence of the Freymark band system (E(1) Sigma(g)(+) <-- A(1) Pi(u)) using laser induced fluorescence. The (v' = 0, v '' = 2), (v' = 1, v '' = 3) and a few lines of the (v' = 2, v '' = 4) vibrational progressions were observed under nascent conditions. The intensity of the (v' = 0, v '' = 2) and (v' = 1, v '' = 3) bands are comparable but the (v' = 2, v '' = 4) band is much weaker, implying that the vibrational population of the v '' = 2 and 3 levels are approximately equal while that of v '' = 4 is much smaller.
