摘要
Two-dimensional supramolecular chemistry on surfaces is strongly governed by directional forces, and expression of chirality in two dimensions is quite pronounced due to confinement to the plane. In particular the absence of certain symmetry elements has a strong influence on pattern formation. With the appearance of scanning tunneling microscopy, two-dimensional supramolecular chirality has become a popular issue in the field of surface self-assembly during the last decade. By using recent examples from literature, a conceptual overview on different aspects of surface chirality will be given. The main topics are adsorption-induced chirality, chiral recognition, transfer of chirality from single molecules into supramolecular structures, and cooperatively driven chiral amplification phenomena.
