Probabilistic-statistical simulation of the non-linear mechanical behavior of a woven SiC/SiC composite

The mechanical behavior of a woven fiber-reinforced ceramic composite (SiC/SiC CVI composite) was simulated by using a numerical method based upon finite element computations of the stress state and of the distribution of failure probabilities within a unit cell. Properties of composite constituents were used for computations, and matrix damage was created within the mesh according to experimental observations. Comparison of results of computations with experimental darn demonstrated the validity of this approach. (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Limited
