摘要
Several generations of atmospheric re-analyses have been produced at the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Reanalysis activities at ECMWF have been closely connected with the development of its operational forecasting system. A reanalysis of observations collected for the First Global Experiment of the Global Atmospheric Research Program (FGGE) started only months after the first operational forecast was issued in August 1979. ECMWF's role in the FGGE project set started a strong feedback loop between improvements in the global observing system, advances in data assimilation methodology, and development of better forecast models through reanalysis. ECMWF's latest atmospheric reanalysis is ERA-Interim, which covers the modern satellite era from January 1979 to the present at a spatial resolution of 80 km. ERA-Interim is based on a 2006 version of the IFS and uses a four-dimensional variational (4D-Var) analysis for data assimilation.
