摘要
Some essential ingredients of a multi-chopper time-of-flight (MTOF) spectrometer, recently proposed for the spallation source project AUSTRON, will be described briefly. A continuous variable energy resolution (1 mu eV to 10 meV), and a large dynamic range (1 mu eV to 100 meV), are among its outstanding features. This spectrometer makes full use of the pulsed source peak flux. Therefore, and because of an improved design, high resolution will be available at high intensity: for any given resolution the total intensity at the detectors, when placed at AUSTRON, will be larger by three orders of magnitude than the total intensity of the best presently existing instrument of this type (NEAT) at a steady-state source.
