Hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of BaZr(1-x)M(x)O(3-alpha) (M=Al, Ga, In, x<=0.20) series oxides

On the basis of hydrothermal synthesis of perovskite-type BaZrO3, BaZr(1-x)M(x)O(3-alpha), (M = Al, Ga, In, x less than or equal to 0.20) series, solid electrolytes were prepared. The phase, particle size and dopant content of the product were characterized by the techniques such as XRD, SEM, IR, Al-27-MASNMR and chemical analyses. The results indicated that the phase corresponds to cubic perovskite-type BaZrO3, the product has a particle size in the range 2 to 7 mu m with some degree of crystal twin. Moreover, M(3+) (M = Al, Ga, In, x less than or equal to 0.20) as the dopant can nearly enter the product quantitatively. When Al is the dopant, it is observed that part of the Al3+ ions show four-coordination in the range x greater than or equal to 0.10.
