Clinical and radiological assessment of corrective trimming in lame horses

The authors describe a clinical study about the assessment of the effects of lateral corrective trimming in 15 selected horses suffering from a non radiological lameness located in the digital extremities. All these horses presented an overlength in the lateral part of the hoof and would require a lateral corrective trimming. The clinical determination of the lameness grade, the estimation of interphalangeal articular pinching and the measurements of four angles on radiographs were performed before and after corrective trimming. A significant variation of three of these angles, a reduction of articular pinching and a marked decrease of lameness evaluated 6 weeks later were observed.
