Let V be a positive potential class C-4 on R(n) such that its derivatives of order 2 to 4 are bounded. We prove that parallel to(exp(-tV)exp(2t Delta)exp(-tV)-exp(-2t(-Delta+V))parallel to(S(L2)) = O(t(2)) as t tends to zero. Our assumptions are more general than those of Helffer [2], and our techniques rely on holomorphic semigroups and estimates on commutators. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
