(Figure Presented) The combined advantages of layered double-hydroxide catalysts and rare-earth compounds are found in the layered rare-earth hydroxides [R4(OH)10(H2O)4] nAn (R = Y, Dy, Ho, Yb; A = organic anion). These crystalline materials (see structure) comprise rigid organic anions (balls and sticks) intercalated between inorganic layers (polyhedra). They are selective heterogeneous catalysts for hydrodesulfurization and sulfide oxidation. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
