The 5d4fn-1 → 4fn luminescence of trivalent rare earth ions in inorganic crystals

摘要
Data on 5d4f (n-1) --> 4f (n) luminescence of the trivalent rare earth ions obtained from literature on luminescent phosphors, and from research on scintillation crystals has been gathered. More than 200 different inorganic compounds doped with Ce3+, Pr3+, or Nd3+ were found that show spin and dipole allowed 5d4f (n-1) --> 4f (n) transitions. Inspecting the wavelength of emission, clear patterns emerge that help in predicting the position of 5d4f (n-1) levels in yet non-investigated compounds.
