摘要
We describe a futuristic mu(+)mu(-) collider complex which uses a combination of bent and straight silicon crystals for the circular confinement and to provide the horizontal and vertical focusing. It would also involve laser driven crystal acceleration and crystal cooling to enhance the luminosity. The design of a 250 x 250 GeV storage ring-collider is outlined here, including quantitative lattice design based on an alternating gradient crystal cell. Two other functional cells (accelerating and cooling) are also described in detail, The conceptual basis for this collider is that the mu(+/-) beams are not destroyed by either radiation like e(+/-) or hadronic interactions like <(p)over bar p>, thus allowing for a full solid state collider. The muon lifetime in a relativistic storage ring; number of revolutions scales like 300 B, where B is the bending field. For a single bent Si crystals its bending angle could easily reach a few mrad, therefore the equivalent bending field is B similar to 1000 T, giving similar to 3 x 10(5) turns in the storage ring before the next mu(+/-) beam is injected, Assuming integration of all four functionalities (trending, alternate focusing, cooling, acceleration) into corresponding cells such a collider would have a few thousand of various Si crystal components.
