A systematic spectroelectrochemical investigation of alkyl-substituted anilines and their polymers

摘要
Various aniline derivatives carrying one or two alkyl substituents in Various positions (alkylanilines, toluidines and xylidines) were polymerized electrochemically. The obtained conducting polymers were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, in situ infrared spectroscopy and in situ conductivity measurements. Differences in the electrochemical properties of the investigated monomers and polymers are explained an the basis of steric and electronic effects of the substituents. These conclusions are supported by data of vibrational spectroscopy.
