Determination of the quantum efficiency of Er3+ in glasses: Indirect and direct methods

摘要
We compare quantum efficiency for erbium doped silica and fluoride glasses as determined by the ratio of measured to calculated radiative lifetimes, with results directly measured by photoacoustics. Comparison shows that results are similar for fluoride glasses, whereas discrepancies are found for silica glasses. Such difference is traced back to the role of ligand field strength at the erbium ion site in the application of Einstein relation linking spontaneous and stimulated emission.
