Nanometre-scale grain-boundary sliding in copper bicrystals with [001] twist boundaries

摘要
The boundary-dependent capability of grain-boundary sliding for various [001] twist boundaries in Cu has been systematically examined below 573 K. The sliding has been detected by observing the rotation of moire fringes on boundary bcc Fe-Co particles in an aged Cu-Fe-Co alloy. The magnitude of sliding is not more than 1 nm. The activation energy Q and pre-exponential factor eta(0) of boundary viscosity against misorientation angle curves show several cusps and these curves are analogous to the boundary energy against misorientation curve. A lower-energy boundary has a higher viscosity with a larger value of Q and a smaller value of eta(0).
