Infrared studies of calcia-alumina fibers

摘要
IR depth profiling of propane-stabilized calcia-alumina fibers showed that carbon deposited on the fibers during melt-spinning induced tetrahedral coordination of aluminum atoms near the fiber surface. It is proposed that this effect increases melt surface viscosity and stabilizes calcia-alumina fibers. Ethers, esters, and carboxylates were also seen on the fiber surfaces and it is proposed that carbon monoxide reacts with carbon in the fiber to make these species.
