Acidic-sensing property of 9-(cycloheptatrienylidene)fluorene by UV-Vis spectroscopy

摘要
From the UV-Vis absorption spectra based on the variety acidity, a pH-dependent reversible equilibrium between 9-(cycloheptatrienylidene)fluorene (1) and its protonated form (I-H+) has been established in a mixture of concentrated sulfuric acid and ethanol system. Three clear isosbestic points (235, 258 and 316 nm) were observed in the UV-Vis spectra. It shows clearly that the structural change between I and I-H+ can serve as an effective candidate for pH-indicator, and might be used as pH-dependent molecular sensor. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V.
