Optical investigations of the charge gap in orbital-ordered La1/2Sr3/2MnO4

摘要
Temperature and polarization dependent electronic structure of La1/2Sr3/2MnO4 was investigated by optical conductivity analyses. With decreasing temperature, a broad midinfrared peak in the optical conductivity for E parallel to ab of La1/2Sr3/2MnO4 becomes narrower and shifts toward a higher frequency, and, furthermore, its optical gap significantly increases. We showed that such a temperature-dependent behavior of La1/2Sr3/2MnO4 is the result of cooperative enhancement of the orbital ordering stabilized by the CE-type magnetic ordering and the Jahn-Teller distortion.
