摘要
The preparation of reinforced Kevlar-nanotube composites by swelling commercially available Kevlar 129™ fibers in suspensions of nanotubes in the solvent n-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) was investigated. The morphology and properties were investigated by Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and mechanical testing. Kevlar fibers were produced by wet-spinning from sulphuric acid solution and Single Walled Nanotube (SWNT) fibers were produced by acid spinning. The method is based on the ultrasonic-assisted swelling of the polymeric fiber in a nanotube suspension with the use of an organic solvent. It was observed that the swelling of Kevlar in the carbon nanotube suspension in NMP resulted in new Kevlar nanotube composites with improved mechanical properties.
