A new tuning fork of the plane structure with 4 vibrating arms is proposed here. First, the mode of vibration and the resonant frequency were clarified by finite element analysis and experimental investigation. As a result: it became clear that there are modes of vibration suitable for application to a vibratory gyroscope. The influence of the support on these modes is fairly small in comparison with a conventional tuning fork. The operation as a vibratory gyroscope was confirmed experimentally. Since the tuning fork has 4 vibrating arms, the drive and detection can each be carried out using one pair of arms. The influence of acceleration on the output voltage is small because differential detection is realized electrically by using a pair of arms. Also, the electrode arrangement is simplified. It was clarified that the new tuning fork operates as a high-performance vibratory gyroscope with the above advantages.
