Infrared absorption and differential scanning calorimetry studies of sodium tungstate dihydrate glasses containing iron oxide

A series of glass specimen [Na2WO4.2H(2)O](1-x)[Fe2O3](x) with x = 0, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.25 were prepared. The infrared absorption spectra of these sodium tungstate dihydrate glass specimens containing iron oxide have been studied as a function of iron oxide. It was found that the addition of Fe2O3 introduced a new absorption band at 1425 cm [1] not present in the infrared spectrum of a pure (Na(2)WO(4)2H(2)O) glass sample. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements showed endothermal reactions varing from 117 degrees C to 130 degrees C depending on the Fe2O3 concentration. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
