Chemical deposition of palladium black and its catalytic effect on hydrogenation of 2-octene

Palladinized Pd sheet electrodes were used for improving the catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of 2-octene having poor reactivity at a Pd sheet electrode. The palladinization was carried out chemically with active hydrogen which was electrochemically produced, followed by passing through the Pd sheet electrode. The Pd black deposits grew up three-dimensionally with increasing palladinization time, resulting in the marked increase in number of reaction site. In addition, current density for the palladinization affected the morphology of the Pd black deposits. Apparent current efficiency for octane production in the hydrogenation of 2-octene increased with an increase in amount of the Pd black deposits probably due to the marked increase in number of reaction site.
