摘要
Emission from planar defect modes is investigated by difference frequency mixing of femtosecond laser pulses using a nonlinear crystal as the defect layer in three-dimensional photonic crystals with finite periods. Numerical analysis revealed that surface modes were excited with some planar defect modes. The calculated and measured results suggest that the defect modes with surface modes exhibit lower quality factor than those without surface modes.
