摘要
We use a combination of scaling laws and direct hydrocode computations that include material strength to show that the impact energy needed to disperse an asteroid is greater than that to thoroughly shatter it for asteroids larger than about 400 m in radius. Thus, asteroids larger than this size should probably be considered to be gravitationally bound, but otherwise strengthless, rubble piles. (C) 1997 Academic Press.
