A common cause of erroneous statements or proofs is found in a significant number of oscillation theorems for difference equations. Some of these statements can be rescued by a discrete oscillation lemma, but many others will need to be modified or recalled. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
