摘要
Interest in the use of probiotics; for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal infections has increased over the past few decades. Controlled trials support a role for probiotics in the prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and in the treatment of recurrent Clostridium dffiicile-associated disease. In the pediatric population, controlled trials have shown efficacy in the prevention and treatment of acute diarrhea. Several studies have shown a suppressive effect of lactobacilli on Helicobacter pylori, and preliminary reports suggest that probiotics may decrease secondary infections in pancreatitis. Studies that evaluated their use for the prevention of traveler's diarrhea produced conflicting results. Additional trials are needed to define better the role of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
