摘要
An unusual mechanism of growth during the polymerization of poly(pyrrole) in an ionic liquid with the polymer growing along the surface of the solution and the use of ionic liquids for the electrochemical synthesis of conductive polymers was investigated. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of the materials provide details of the growth mechanism of such electrochemically synthesized poly(pyrrole) films. Ionic liquids are a relatively new class of solvent, composed of ions whose advantageous physical properties include negligible vapor pressure, noninflammability and good electrochemical stability. The phenomenon can be improved using different electrode setups and electrochemical techniques to produce free-standing films with desirable morphological features such as directional growth and fine-structured, larger surface area films.
