摘要
In several European countries, bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) control programs based on detection and removal of animals persistently infected with BVD virus (BVDV) have been running for up to 10 years. The design and running of these programs have been tailored to the epidemiologic situation as well as the animal disease control measures in use in each country or defined geographic region. The initial results of the control strategies showed a high success rate of clearing BVDV from investigated herds. Although cleared herds had a low rate of reinfection, a long-term result of the control programs has been a substantial reduction of the prevalence of BVDV, particularly in the Scandinavian countries. Based on declining prevalence figures obtained up to 2003 and control measures currently in force, a complete eradication of BVDV from Norway and Sweden may soon become a reality
