Study of two-phase mixtures copper(I) bromide-alumina by impedance spectroscopy

Electrical properties of two-phase mixtures of copper(I) bromide and alumina (molar fraction <0.3) were investigated by impedance spectroscopy. The enhancement of electrical conductivity in comparison with pure copper(I) bromide can be interpreted with a 'brick-layer' space charge model. SEM observations confirm globally the presence of continuous layers of alumina particles around grains of the solid ionic conductor. Bulk and short-circuiting 'parallel' pathways are detected in a high-frequency semi-circle. The low-frequency response is essentially due to current path narrowing by 'perpendicular' alumina layers.
