Information on the spatial distribution of job opportunities within metropolitan areas

This paper investigates the knowledge that people have of the spatial distribution of job openings within their metropolitan area. Respondents to a survey conducted in Atlanta in 1993 were asked to rank areas within the Region based on the number of job openings for workers without college degrees. To judge the accuracy of the answers, a variety of methods are employed to obtain the true rankings. Results indicate that both whiles and blacks have poor information, with blacks the worst informed, and that the black disadvantage is entirely attributable to residential segregation.
