摘要
There have been few clinical genetic studies of pain processing. The authors propose methods for the design of such studies to optimize the chance of success, including a systematic process to prioritize candidate alleles, sample size considerations, and the use of principles gleaned from analgesic clinical trials to maximize study sensitivity. These principles may also be applied to designing initial candidate gene studies in other clinical conditions.
