摘要
Genetic algorithms have been applied with great success in a number of fields as a tool for optimization. This paper explores their application in the groundwater field. The dual reciprocity boundary element method with global interpolation functions is employed as the computational tool. Two optimization problems are investigated: a pumping management problem in a homogeneous aquifer, and a parameter estimation problem in a heterogeneous aquifer. The initial findings about the effectiveness of the algorithms are encouraging. (C) Elsevier Science Ltd.
