An ESR study of reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer copolymerization of styrene and maleic anhydride

摘要
An electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopic study of the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization of maleic anhydride and styrene was performed. The chain propagating rate was greatly reduced due to the formation of a relatively stable dialkylthiobenzyl radical in the presence of a RAFT agent which could be easily detected. Structures of propagating radicals were deduced using the ESR spectra.
