摘要
The use of Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS), which uses near-infrared (NIR) excitation light, non-resonant to the electronic transitions of the target molecule is discussed. The applications range from the use of Raman spectroscopic characterization of specific DNA fragments to structurally sensitive detection of single bases without the use of fluorescent or radioactive tags. The effective nonresonant SERS cross-sections of good laser dyes or many even exceed these numbers. The single molecule SERS is primarily a phenomenon associated with strongly enhanced and geometrically confined local optical fields. The SERS spectroscopy will provide some advantages over fluorescence and is the most suitable method for detecting single molecule.
