A method for the synthesis of dodecanethiol-capped cadmium sulfide nanoparticles in a Winsor II microemulsion of diethyl ether/AOT/water was presented. The dual role of the anionic surfactant AOT, forming the microemulsion and facilitating the extraction of oppositely charged ions from the aqueous to the organic reverse micellar phase was successfully used for the synthesis. The characterization of the nanoparticles was done by transmission electron microscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and various spectroscopic techniques.
