Phase turbulence in the nonlocally coupled phase equation

摘要
A four variable reaction-diffusion system for population of hypothetical biological cells which are coupled through diffusive chemical substances is proposed. Using standard reduction technique the system is reduced to the nonlocally coupled phase equation, with two different coupling ranges. It is shown that in contrast to the nonlocally coupled phase equation with one coupling range, the phase equation with two coupling ranges displays phase turbulence. If the phase equation has only first harmonic terms, phase turbulence persists only at long coupling ranges. If it has first and second harmonics, phase turbulence persists across a wide interval of coupling ranges. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
