Cell wall-attached fibronectin-binding proteins are important multifunctional virulence factors of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. This review describes recent advances in the understanding of the function of these proteins on a molecular level and of their role in infections. (c) 2006 Elsevier SAS. All rights reserved.
