摘要:
The magnetic memory medium in present disk memories is a continuous film of independently switching single-domain particles. The granularity of the medium produces noise which becomes unacceptable at very small bit sizes. Reducing grain size, which reduces noise, is not possible beyond a critical size because of thermal instability of the magnetization. The consequences of this situation are discussed.
