摘要
A recent article in this journal by E. Chuvieco demonstrated the potential of integrating optimization methods (specifically, linear programming) with geographical information systems (CIS) through the use of a small example in land-use planning. The benefits attainable from the combined use of these technologies are, in our opinion, beyond question. However, several misconceptions regarding the assumptions and use of linear programming (LP) models, as well as the interpretation of results obtained from such models, require clarification.
