We describe an experiment to determine the acceleration due to gravity, g, with an accuracy of about I part in 10(4). The experiment was designed to expose students to critical thinking in collecting, selecting, and analyzing data, and interpreting the results. (C) 1999 American Association of Physics Teachers.
