Synthesis, Ir, NMR and X-ray studies of two hybrid compounds:: (NH3C6H4COOH)+(H2PO4)- and (NH3C6H4COOH)+(H2PO3)-

Chemical preparation, infrared and NMR spectroscopic studies, and structural determination by single crystal X-ray diffraction are reported for m-carboxyphenyl ammonium dihydrogenmonophosphate (m-CPADP): (NH3C6H4COOH)(+)(H2PO4)(-) and m-carboxyphenyl ammonium monohydrogerphosphite (m-CPAMP): (NH3C6H4COOH)(4)(H2PO3)(-). Single crystals were easily prepared by slow evaporation, at room temperature, of a diluted aqueous solution containing m-amino benzoic and phosphoric or phosphorous acids in stoichiometric ratios. The two salts crystallize in the P2(1)/c space group of the monoclinic system, with the following unit cell parameters: a=6.578(5)Angstrom, b=11.780(9)Angstrom, c=12.928(3)Angstrom, beta=102.673(0)degrees, V=977.5 Angstrom(3) (m-CPADP) a=12.980(2)Angstrom, b=11.507(1)Angstrom, c=6.623(4)Angstrom, beta= 104.746(3)degrees, V=956.7Angstrom(3) (m-CPAMP) IR and NMR spectrometry studies were performed and confirmed the X-ray diffraction results. The structural arrangements can be described as inorganic layers of H2PO4- or H2PO3- units separated by infinite organic chains of NH3C6H4COOH+; strong hydrogen bonds maintain the cohesion between inorganic and organic layers.
