Microbial evolution in laboratory environments

摘要
The classical model of evolutionary change in microbial populations is evaluated in terms of recent evidence obtained from genetic and molecular analysis of evolving laboratory populations in simple, defined homogeneous environments. Patterns of change are observed which cannot be predicted from the classical model. These observations highlight the value of the study of evolving laboratory populations, which allow a degree of analysis typically not possible for natural populations. (C) 2004 Elsevier SAS.
