A peculiar medical cardioversion of atrial fibrillation with glucose infusion-a rare cause of atrial fibrillation: hypoglycemia

Alterations in blood glucose levels are known to be involved in electrocardiogram changes. Various types of arrhythmias associated with the alterations in blood glucose levels have been reported. Here, we report a case of a 53-year-old woman presenting with transient atrial fibrillation while being treated for hypoglycemia with dextrose infusion, which promptly reverted to sinus rhythm. The presence of hypoglycemia should be considered as a potential reversible cause of atrial fibrillation in diabetic patients, thus limiting treatment with antiarrhythmic drugs.
