A personal locator is a new device designed to find a mentally impaired relative, a lost child, or a criminal in a sprawling metropolitan area. A personal locator system could use any of several technologies. Among the most common methods are angle and time difference of the signal's arrival, global positioning system (GPS) and the more recent assisted GPS, enhanced signal strength, and location fingerprinting.
